Vel Care Alliance

What it looks like in practice

Real teenagers. Real momentum.

We would rather show you what has happened than tell you what we believe. These are real teenagers we support, told plainly, with the timelines left in.

A support worker coaching a teenager in a Dockers shirt through a gym session

Four months at home became a year of momentum

A fifteen-year-old had left school and was sitting at home with nothing in his week. Before the first session, we learned he followed the Dockers, so his support worker turned up with a Dockers shirt. He smiled. That was the start.

A year on, he is studying at TAFE, volunteering in a cafe kitchen where he discovered he loves to cook, and ordering his own lunch in public. It did not happen overnight. It happened because someone stayed.

A teenager in hi-vis workwear beside a traffic-control sign on a Perth street

From the lounge room to a paid job on the road

A young man who cannot read or write needed a traffic control certificate to work. The standard course was never going to be accessible on its own.

Our founder sat beside him through every training session, bridging the gap until he passed. He now does paid traffic control work. No employment program wrote that outcome. A provider who already knew him did.

A teenager out and about in the community with Vel Care Alliance

Held for the long haul, when others had left

A non-verbal teenager with complex behaviour had been through two providers in a year. We assigned one consistent worker and stayed.

Close to a year on, the change is real if undramatic: calmer transitions, more trust, a family who now rings us for advice rather than wondering what to do. Slow, steady, and ours to keep building on.

“If we can make a teenager’s life even one percent better, that is a big win for us.”

Rio, Founder
